Is it Too Early (Or Too Late) to Start BOTOX® Treatments?

Mature woman and young woman happy with their BOTOX® results.

You’ve heard the hype about BOTOX®, and you’re sold—but have you missed your window, or are you maybe even jumping the gun? If you’re curious about the right time to start BOTOX®, you’re not alone. The good news? At our med spa locations across the Roseville area, we perform BOTOX® treatments for people of just about every age, all with gorgeous results.

Read on to learn more about the right time for BOTOX® and why it’s almost never too early or too late.

When should you start getting BOTOX®?

There is no definite age when you should start BOTOX®—it’s more about the state of your skin, and everyone’s timeline is different. For wrinkle treatments, it’s best to start when you notice forehead lines, frown lines, or crow’s feet even when your expression is neutral. For contouring treatments such as brow lifts or jaw slimming, the right time is whenever you feel ready, as long as you are over 18.

What is preventative BOTOX®?

Preventative BOTOX® means starting BOTOX® at the very first sign of aging to preserve the skin’s youthfulness and prevent wrinkles instead of having to reverse them later on. It’s not uncommon for people to start BOTOX® in their 20s to get a jump-start on staying young and fresh.

Of course, BOTOX® is just one element of a strong anti-aging skincare routine. Learn more about preventing signs of aging with at-home skincare in this previous blog post.

Will wrinkles come back worse if you stop BOTOX®?

Nope—it’s the opposite. BOTOX® prevents wrinkles from etching more deeply into your skin, so more time using BOTOX® actually means your lines will be less severe whenever you stop. You can stop and start whenever you choose without any negative effects on your skin.

The treatment lasts for about 3 months at a time, so there’s no big commitment necessary. You can give it a try, take a few years off, and come back again at any time. However, most people choose to stay on top of their treatments with regular appointments. Once they see how smooth and fresh their skin looks, they don’t want to let it fade!

Can you still get BOTOX® even at a late age?

Yep! BOTOX® works beautifully even for more advanced signs of aging. That’s the beauty of it!

If you have especially deep wrinkles, we may recommend a combined treatment approach to create the very best results for you. We often pair BOTOX® with dermal fillers and skin treatments such as lasers and microneedling for even more dramatic rejuvenation.

At DA™, we never take a one-size-fits-all approach to BOTOX®, or any treatment, for that matter. We’re all about understanding your goals and working with you to make them a reality, whatever your age. Whether you’re looking to turn back the clock or keep new wrinkles at bay, we’re here to make it happen with expertly performed treatments you can feel amazing about.

I’m 84. I’m not interested in a full face Botox treatment because I’m not overly wrinkled. I’m only interested in filling in the under-eye tear trough. What would you suggest & what would be the cost?

    • Shawna Chrisman says:

Hi Lynn! Under eye filler is our preferred treatment for smoothing under eyes. This treatment is tailored to each patient’s needs, so we recommend meeting with one of our expert injectors for a complimentary consultation. They will assess your area(s) of concern, provide a detailed treatment plan, and be able to give you pricing as well. Under eye filler specifically, begins at $675 per syringe. Please reach out to our office directly at 916-844-4913 to schedule an appointment. Thank you!
