But there’s another way to lift and shape your top lip that doesn’t necessarily require a drop of JUVÉDERM®, and people are quickly discovering just how fantastic an alternative (or add-on feature) it can be.

What is a BOTOX® lip flip?
A BOTOX® lip flip uses about 4 to 6 units of BOTOX® injected along the upper lip to “flip” it outward and upward. This subtly creates the appearance of a larger, more lifted upper lip. If you feel like your top lip disappears when you smile, this may be the perfect solution. Harper’s Bazaar reports lip injection enthusiasts are falling in love with the lip flip as an alternative way to enhance the lips without necessarily adding any filler.
Lip Flip vs. Filler: What’s the difference?
Lip filler adds physical volume to make lips bigger. The gel-consistency filler, typically made of hyaluronic acid, is injected into the lips to create a more dramatic size increase. A lip flip, on the other hand, relaxes the upper lip muscles to lift the lip and prevent it from curling inward. You can choose to enhance your lips with either option on its own or combine them to enjoy both effects at the same time.
Do lip flips work for treating gummy smiles?
A lip flip by itself probably won’t help with a gummy smile. However, DA™ does offer a dedicated gummy smile treatment with BOTOX®. It includes 2+ units injected along the upper lip border to prevent the whole upper lip from lifting too much when you smile. Like filler, you can opt for this treatment on its own or choose to combine it with a lip flip as well.
Do lip flip treatments hurt?
Lip flips involve a series of 2 to 5 quick injections around your top lip using a very small needle. Most people say these feel like small pinches or bug bites—nothing too intense. The whole treatment typically only takes a few minutes, and then you’re free to return to your usual routine right away.
When will I see my lip flip results?
Unlike filler, which you can see immediately once injected, you won’t see your lip flip results right away. Results gradually appear within 1 to 2 weeks as the BOTOX® takes effect.
How often will I need lip flip treatments?
You’ll likely need treatments every 2-3 or so months to maintain your results. One of the upsides of lip flips is that they’re low commitment. You can try your look out for a couple of months and then decide whether you want to touch it up, let it fade, or experiment with a totally different approach to lip enhancement.
