First-Time BOTOX® Tips With Our New Nurse Injector, Savannah

First Time Getting Botox®? Don't Fret!

Savannah here, the newest injector on the #DA team! As an RN, I get to join my fellow #DAGs in helping people like you boost their confidence with BOTOX® Cosmetic at our new El Dorado Hills, CA, location.

Although many of us on the team are long-time BOTOX® (and Dysport®!) fans, we were all first-timers at one time. We know what it’s like to head into that first appointment with a few butterflies in our stomachs. That’s why I’m sharing my first-timer tips to help you feel a little more assured and excited when you step through our doors for your first treatment.

Finding the Right Injector Is Key

Your injector is your best friend when it comes to BOTOX®, so you want to make sure you find the right one! Your first step is to look for credentials. Your injector should be an RN, NP, PA, or MD with plenty of experience. Next, you want to find someone you can trust to really listen to your goals and create the natural-looking results you’re looking for.

A great way to start is by looking through before-and-after photos and scheduling a consultation to meet with an injector in person.

There’s No Right or Wrong Age To Start

People often ask me if they’re too young or too old to start BOTOX®, and the answer is almost always no! I see people as young as their 20s and just about every age up from there. (It’s approved for adults who are 18 years or older.) I recommend starting as soon as you begin to notice expression lines forming, but BOTOX® will still work its magic whether your lines are brand new or you’ve had them for years.

If you’re not sure whether you’re ready, find out by taking our quiz!

Don’t Fear the Needle

It’s totally normal to be a little nervous about any kind of injection, but BOTOX® is really no big thing. We use tiny, tiny needles to inject it, and each injection takes just seconds. Most people say the needles feel like small pinches or bug bites.

If you’re really not big on needles, let your injector know. We’re happy to talk you through your treatment and make sure you have the easiest and best experience possible.

Be Ready To Carry Right on With Your Day

You don’t have to pencil off major time to have BOTOX® done. In fact, many people come in on their lunch break and head right back to work without their coworkers suspecting a thing. Appointments take as little as 10 to 20 minutes, and there’s little to no downtime.

There are a couple of side effects to note: It’s normal to have a little bit of redness or swelling around your injection sites for the first few hours, and some people report feeling a bit of a dull headache. You’ll also want to skip any intense workouts for the rest of the day and wait a few hours before you lie down, as these can cause your BOTOX® to spread to unwanted areas.

You Won’t See Results Right Away

During the first few days after your appointment, you likely won’t notice any difference in your lines and wrinkles. That’s normal! It takes about 5 to 10 days for BOTOX® results to develop. Once those results set in, you can expect them to last about 3 months before the product naturally wears off. If you love your new look and want to maintain it, stop back in for another appointment whenever your lines start to reappear.
