How Long Does Botox Last? A Sacramento Expert’s Timeline

If there is one question we hear more than any other at Destination Aesthetics™, it’s this: “How long does Botox last?”

Whether you are visiting us in El Dorado Hills for your very first treatment or stopping by our Elk Grove location for a refresh, we know that Botox is an investment in yourself. You want to know exactly what you’re getting, how long you’ll enjoy that smooth, rested look, and how to plan your appointments to maintain it year-round.

As a Top 10 Allergan Account in the nation (that puts us in the top 1% of all providers in the country), we have performed thousands of treatments. We have refined the art of the perfect dosage to ensure longevity without ever compromising natural movement.

Here is your definitive guide to the Botox timeline, straight from Sacramento’s premier aesthetic experts.

The Short Answer: 3 to 4 Months

For most patients, the effects of Botox and Dysport last between 3 and 4 months.

However, “lasting” isn’t a simple on or off switch. You do not wake up one morning three months later with all your wrinkles back. It is a gradual softening process. To understand it better, it helps to look at the lifecycle of a treatment.

The Botox Lifecycle: What to Expect Week-by-Week

Days 1–3: The “Wait and See” Phase

Immediately after your appointment at one of our five locations (Sacramento, Folsom, Elk Grove, Roseville, or El Dorado Hills), you might see tiny pink bumps at the injection site. These typically disappear within 15 to 20 minutes.

What you see: You likely won’t look different yet. Botox needs time to bind to the receptors in your muscles.

Pro Tip: Avoid heavy exercise, lying down, or wearing tight baseball caps for at least 4 hours post-treatment to keep the product perfectly placed. If you want more first-visit guidance, read our first-time Botox tips.

Days 4–7: The Magic Begins

This is when the magic starts. You’ll notice that when you try to frown or raise your eyebrows, the movement feels heavy or minimal. The lines begin to soften.

What you see: A fresher, more rested version of yourself starting to emerge.

Day 14: Peak Results

We always tell our clients: Don’t judge your results until Day 14. This is when the product has fully settled and reached its maximum efficacy.

What you see: This is the “after photo” moment. Smooth skin, opened-up eyes, and a relaxed brow. If you still have movement or asymmetry at this point, this is the time to call us for a quick touch-up.

Months 1–3: Smooth Sailing

During this window, your results are consistent. Your muscles are relaxed, and the skin overlying them is smooth.

What you see: You simply look like you’re getting great sleep. This is the maintenance phase where you do not have to think about your wrinkles at all.

Month 4: The Gradual Return

At around the 3 to 4-month mark, your body naturally metabolizes the protein. You’ll notice meaningful movement returning to the treated areas.

What you see: The “11s” between your brows might start to reappear faintly when you frown. This is your signal to book your next appointment.

Why Does It Last Longer for Some People?

We often see friends come in together; one needs a touch-up at 3 months, while the other is still smooth at 5 months. Why the difference?

1. Your Metabolism

Just as some people burn calories faster, some bodies metabolize Botox faster. If you are a high-performance athlete or have a very fast metabolism, you might find your results wear off slightly sooner (closer to the 10 to 12 week mark).

2. Muscle Strength

Think of your facial muscles like a workout. If you have incredibly strong forehead muscles (you’re very expressive), it takes a higher dose to relax them, and they may fight to return to movement faster than weaker muscles.

3. Dosage Matters

This is where choosing an expert injector is critical. Micro-dosing or Baby Botox is popular for a subtle look, but lower doses typically wear off faster (sometimes in 8 to 10 weeks). A full, corrective dose will generally provide that standard 3 to 4 month longevity.

If you’re not sure where you fall on the spectrum, take our Botox readiness quiz, or check the right age to start Botox.

Maximizing Your Results in Sacramento

Living in the Sacramento Valley presents its own unique challenges for skin health (hello, 100-degree summers), but you can take steps to protect your investment.

  • Sun protection is key: UV damage breaks down collagen and elastin, which can counteract the rejuvenating look of your Botox. If you want a deeper dive, read how to prevent and treat sun damage.
  • The “zinc” factor: Some studies suggest zinc may support how botulinum toxin binds in the body. Ask your provider if it’s appropriate for you. You can also reference a reputable overview from the American Academy of Dermatology on Botox.
  • Consistency is king: The best way to make your Botox last longer is simple; do not let it wear off completely. If you treat the muscles again just as movement returns, they eventually become trained to stay relaxed. Over time, many of our long-term clients find they can stretch their appointments out longer.

A Sacramento Scheduling Strategy

To maintain a flawless look year-round, we recommend a 3-treatment annual strategy. Here is a sample schedule for our local clients:

  • Late November or early December: Get “Holiday Ready” for parties and New Year’s photos.
  • March or April: The “Spring Refresh” to prep for wedding season and graduation photos.
  • July or August: The “Summer Survival” treatment to keep you looking fresh despite the heat, and to prevent squinting lines from the bright sun.

Why Your Injector Matters

You might see Botox offered everywhere these days, but longevity often comes down to the skill of the hand holding the syringe.

As an Allergan Top 10 Account, Destination Aesthetics™ isn’t just a participant in the industry; we are leaders. Our team includes Allergan Trainers who teach other providers how to inject. We understand the precise anatomy of the face; injecting too shallow or too deep can affect how long the product lasts and how natural it looks.

If you’re evaluating options, here’s a helpful read on what to look for when choosing a high-quality med spa.

Acne Scar Treatment in 2025: Lasers, RF Microneedling, Fillers

Acne scars can leave a lasting mark, both physically and emotionally. If you’ve searched for ways to smooth uneven skin or restore confidence, you’ve probably wondered about the latest acne scar treatments available in Sacramento. In 2025, the options are more advanced than ever, with lasers, RF microneedling, and fillers offering tailored solutions to reduce scars and improve overall skin texture.

What sets today’s treatments apart is the ability to combine technology with personalized care. Whether you’re dealing with deep pitted scars, discoloration, or lingering texture issues, modern approaches provide results that go beyond what creams or at-home remedies can deliver. With skilled providers around Sacramento offering state-of-the-art techniques, patients have access to safe, effective, and customizable paths toward clearer, smoother skin.

Laser Acne Scar Treatment Options

Lasers remain one of the most proven methods for smoothing out acne scars. By creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin, they trigger collagen production and resurface texture irregularities. In 2025, laser acne scar treatment offers more precision and shorter recovery times than older technologies, making it a strong choice for patients with moderate to severe scarring.

  • Fractional CO₂ lasers – penetrate deeply to remodel collagen and improve pitted or boxcar scars
  • Erbium lasers – target the surface layer with less downtime, ideal for lighter scarring
  • Non-ablative fractional lasers – stimulate collagen without removing skin layers, safer for darker tones
  • Photofractional treatments – combine IPL and fractional resurfacing to address redness and texture together

With the right device and settings, laser therapy can dramatically improve scar depth and tone. Many providers now recommend staged treatments for gradual improvement, reducing risks while delivering lasting results. This naturally leads into other advanced options like RF microneedling, which also focus on collagen remodeling from a different angle.

RF Microneedling for Acne Scars

While lasers resurface from the top down, RF microneedling works from the inside out. This treatment uses ultra-fine needles to deliver radiofrequency energy beneath the skin, stimulating new collagen and tightening tissue. RF microneedling for acne scars is especially useful for rolling or shallow scars that need remodeling without excessive surface damage.

  • Morpheus8® – combines microneedling with deep fractional RF, targeting multiple layers for contour and scar smoothing
  • Scarlet RF – designed for overall texture improvement with minimal downtime
  • Secret RF – customizable depths to treat both acne scars and fine lines
  • Vivace® – adds LED light therapy for enhanced healing and skin tone benefits

Patients often experience redness and mild swelling for one to two days, but recovery is typically easier compared to aggressive lasers. When paired with other therapies, RF microneedling helps round out a comprehensive approach to acne scar treatment, setting up the next level of improvement with fillers.

Fillers for Acne Scar Treatment

For scars that create depressions in the skin, dermal fillers can provide instant improvement by lifting the tissue from beneath. Unlike lasers or RF microneedling, which work by stimulating collagen over time, fillers give immediate volume where scars have caused indentations. This makes them an important part of modern acne scar treatment when a quick, visible change is desired.

  • Hyaluronic acid fillers – versatile, reversible, and often used to lift shallow boxcar or rolling scars
  • Collagen-stimulating fillers – such as Sculptra® or Radiesse®, which trigger natural collagen for longer-lasting results
  • Combination approaches – fillers layered with energy-based treatments for both immediate correction and gradual remodeling
  • Maintenance required – results are temporary, usually lasting 6–18 months depending on filler type

Fillers are not a cure for all acne scars, but they play a valuable role in a combined plan. By addressing volume loss quickly, they complement the gradual improvements from lasers and RF, giving patients a smoother look while long-term collagen remodeling takes place.

Combination Acne Scar Treatments in 2025

No single therapy can address every type of acne scar. That’s why combination treatments have become the gold standard in 2025. By layering different modalities, providers can target multiple scar types at once, achieving results that are both faster and more complete than relying on one option alone.

  • Laser + RF Microneedling – resurfacing the top layer while tightening and rebuilding collagen beneath
  • Laser + Fillers – correcting surface irregularities while restoring lost volume in deeper scars
  • RF Microneedling + Fillers – stimulating natural repair and immediately lifting depressed areas
  • Triple approach – staged treatments that use all three over time for the most dramatic improvement
  • Adjunct skincare – medical-grade products to maintain and extend results between sessions

This layered strategy allows providers to treat rolling, boxcar, and ice pick scars in a more tailored way. Patients benefit from smoother texture, improved tone, and greater confidence, all while minimizing downtime through careful scheduling and balanced treatment plans.

Cost of Acne Scar Removal

The price of acne scar treatment can vary depending on the severity of scars, the number of sessions needed, and which technologies are combined. While it may feel like a significant investment, the results often last for years and can be maintained with occasional touch-ups. Patients should view cost as a reflection of both technology and the expertise of the provider.

  • Laser treatments – typically priced per session, with ranges influenced by device type and treatment depth
  • RF microneedling – costs can vary based on treatment area size and number of passes performed
  • Fillers – priced by syringe, with the total depending on how many scars require lifting
  • Combination plans – bundled packages are often offered for multi-modality treatments, creating better long-term value
  • Maintenance treatments – occasional touch-ups may be needed to preserve results, especially with fillers

While prices differ from clinic to clinic, many patients find that investing in combination therapies reduces the overall number of treatments needed. This not only saves money over time but also delivers more consistent results that are easier to maintain.

What to Expect During Acne Scar Treatment

If you’ve never gone through acne scar treatment before, it helps to know what the process feels like from start to finish. While every clinic has its own routine, most follow a similar structure that keeps patients comfortable and ensures safe results.

  • Consultation – an initial visit where your provider looks at scar types, reviews your skin history, and suggests a plan
  • During treatment – numbing cream is usually applied, followed by laser passes, RF microneedling, or filler injections depending on your plan
  • Session length – most visits take under an hour, though combined approaches can stretch a little longer
  • Downtime – redness, swelling, or light peeling may happen for a few days with lasers; RF microneedling recovery is usually shorter; fillers require little to none
  • Aftercare – sunscreen and gentle skincare are musts, with simple steps to help your skin heal smoothly

The key takeaway is that recovery in 2025 is far easier than it used to be. Many people are able to return to work or school within a couple of days, and the gradual improvements in texture keep building as collagen develops beneath the surface.

Finding the Right Acne Scar Combination Treatment for You

Acne scars don’t have to be permanent reminders of the past. With the range of treatments available today, from lasers and RF microneedling to strategic filler use, there’s more control than ever over how your skin looks and feels. The process isn’t always instant, and it often requires patience as collagen rebuilds and texture improves over time, but that gradual transformation is part of what makes the results so lasting.

What makes 2025 different is the shift toward personalized, layered approaches. Instead of hoping one treatment will fix everything, providers now design plans around your specific scar types, skin tone, and goals. That flexibility means better outcomes with less guesswork, and for many people, it’s the difference between feeling stuck and finally seeing real change.

If you’ve been living with acne scars for months or even years, it’s worth exploring what’s possible now. The technology has caught up to the need, and the results speak for themselves.

Get the Best Available Acne Scar Treatment in Sacramento at Destination Aesthetics

Modern acne scar treatment has come a long way. With lasers, RF microneedling, and fillers available in 2025, patients have access to customizable options that address scars from multiple angles. What matters most is having an experienced team guide you through the right combination of therapies for your skin type and goals.

At Destination Aesthetics® in Sacramento and surrounding areas, patients benefit from advanced technology, skilled providers, and comprehensive acne treatment packages designed specifically for scarring. If you’ve been considering how to get rid of acne scars, this page introduces the DA Acne Package; a bundled approach that combines proven technologies into a tailored plan for lasting results.

FAQs About Acne Scar Treatment

How many treatments will I need?
Most people need a series of sessions. Lasers and RF microneedling are usually done in 3–5 treatments, while fillers may only require 1–2 visits depending on scar depth. Patients who choose the DA Acne Package at Destination Aesthetics® often see the best results because it combines these therapies into a structured plan rather than relying on a single treatment.

Does acne scar removal hurt?
With numbing creams and modern devices, discomfort is minimal. Patients usually describe the sensation as mild heat or pressure rather than pain.

How long does recovery take?
Downtime varies by treatment. Fillers have almost no downtime, RF microneedling typically takes 1–2 days, and lasers can take up to a week for redness and peeling to fade.

Are results permanent?
Improvements from collagen stimulation are long-lasting, though natural aging continues. Fillers are temporary but can be maintained with repeat treatments.

Can all skin tones be treated?
Yes, with today’s devices most skin types can be treated safely. Providers simply adjust settings to reduce risks like hyperpigmentation.

Will acne scar treatment also help active breakouts?
Some devices, especially certain lasers, may improve acne activity by reducing oil gland activity or bacteria. However, the main focus is on treating existing scars.

What Safety Improvements Were Made in 2025?

Patient safety has always been a CoolSculpting priority, but 2025 brings meaningful enhancements that address previous concerns. The most significant improvement targets Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH), a rare condition where fat grows instead of shrinks after treatment.

  • Freeze Detect technology prevents dangerous overcooling
  • Automatic temperature monitoring throughout treatment
  • Enhanced sensor systems for real-time safety tracking

DAG’s Work From Home

DAG’s Work From Home

While nothing compares to days at the DA™ offices, the DAGs have been getting by with Zoom meetings and non-stop text threads in Slack.

In theory, working from home means you can comfortably roll out of bed and onto your computer without your usual pre-work routine, but there are a few steps you should take to make sure you’re operating at your best (and staying sane while doing it!).

Here’s Your DA-WFH Playbook:

1. START WITH YOUR REGULAR MORNING ROUTINE

Yes, you don’t have to put on a full face of makeup to sit at home all day, but kicking off your morning with your basic skincare routine is the best way to start the day.

DA roundup of our WFH skincare essentials:

  • SkinMedica® Lumivive™ Day Damage Defense Serum: This clinically-proven serum provides a bio-barrier that helps protect against the damaging effects of blue light from devices.
  • SkinMedica® Total Defense + Repair SPF 34: A superscreen that goes beyond UV protection to defend against harmful infrared rays, Even though we are inside working from home, it’s still so important to protect our skin from all varying lights around us.
  • Colorescience® Sunforgettable Brush on SPF 50: A brush on sunscreen that never leaves our side. Reapplying has never been more convenient!
  • SkinMedica® HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator: Provides immediate smoothing in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and supports the skin’s natural ability to retain moisture resulting in radiant, rejuvenated tone and texture.
  • Colorescience® Lip Shine: Sun protection, a touch of gloss, and just the right natural color to get you ready for a Zoom meeting.

Shop them here: DA™ Premier Beauty Store

Make sure you choose a comfortable outfit as well – it will make the idea of sitting in front of your computer all day far more appealing. Professional on top, pajamas on the bottom!

2. YOUR WORKSPACE IS YOUR HAPPY PLACE

A dedicated workspace can be your happy place while working from home. Make sure you have all of the essentials conveniently accessible, like chargers, airpods, planner, and especially your Colorescience® sunforgettable brush for easy re-application! Don’t be afraid to add in little extras that make you happy: a scented candle, essential oil diffuser, or natural light streaming in from a window can make a huge difference in your space.

3. ADD A LITTLE BACKGROUND NOISE

Pick a podcast or playlist to have on in the background to keep you on track throughout your workday. You can listen to DA’s WFH playlist on Spotify.

4. TEXT YOUR WORK WIFE

If you’re used to casually strolling over to your co-worker to chat about a project, you’ll feel serious withdrawal when you’re working from home. With that in mind, set up meetings or check-ins throughout the day so your team can stay on the same page, and when in doubt, text your work wife just to say “hey!”.

5. INDULGE IN SOME SERIOUS SELF-CARE

There’s no better time to try a new face mask or take a supremely luxurious bath. Think of all those fabulous treatments and products you’re dying to try on the weekends? Now you can do them at home all while working your usual 9-5.

DA roundup of our favorite masks:

  1. Obagi® Professional-C Microdermabrasion Polish + Mask: Helps to unveil dramatically brighter, smoother, more youthful-looking skin, with a powerful infusion of 30% L-ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) and ultra-fine crystals for exfoliation.

Your Post-Workday Plan

1. MAKE TIME TO MOVE

A workout at home or walk around your neighborhood (at non-peak hours so you can practice social distancing safely) is essential during your post-work hours. Stream workouts right from your home! Here are a few local studios doing live streams and posting tips to their Instagram feed: Humani Pilates, CorePower Yoga, Daily Method, Fitsom Studios, Fitness Rangers, InstaPhysique, Fit4MOM.

2. SCHEDULE FACETIME DATES WITH YOUR FRIENDS

Your friends can all virtually hang out as you safely keep your distance with FaceTime dates. You can even make it a remote happy hour: add a little wine or your favorite cocktail and you can virtually “cheers” with your besties.

3. GET YOUR DIY HOME PROJECTS DONE

You’ve been talking about getting your gallery wall up for years, and now you can spend your post-work hours making it a reality.

4. ORDER IN

Support local businesses, order take out! Check out the DAG’s favorite restaurants offering takeout on our Support Local Businesses post.

5. MASTER TIKTOK

Becoming a TikTok pro requires time and practice, and the era of social distancing is the perfect opportunity to work on your TikTok game.

6. CALL YOUR GRANDPARENTS AND OTHER RELATIVES

Your grandparents or older relatives are likely staying put at home, which means they’re likely available to chat on the phone. People may feel isolated during this time, so don’t forget to virtually show your family some love.

7. FIND A WAY TO HELP OTHERS

Check in with your neighbors and anyone in your community who might need additional help during this time. Or, donate to an organization that’s making a difference in response to the Coronavirus pandemic: River CIty Food Bank, St. Johns and Room to Grow are three outstanding organizations we love at Destination Aesthetics.

8. WORK ON A PUZZLE OR PLAY A BOARD GAME

Pause from screen time by working on a puzzle or playing an old school board game. You’ll be surprised how entertaining they are!

DIY Skin Care Treatment Devices

DIY Skin Care Treatment Devices

With California gradually lifting shelter-in-place orders around the state, many women have explored do-it-yourself skincare treatments until they can book an appointment at a medical spa in Sacramento, Roseville, and surrounding areas. If you’re curious about what these at-home treatments can accomplish, it really depends on the product and your expectations.

Some of the devices provide definite benefits, but you shouldn’t expect the same level of results that you would get a medical spa. You can usually find these products for less than $100, so it may be worth checking out until you can see an aesthetician.

Some of the medical spa treatments you can try to emulate at home include:

  • Microneedling: There are plenty of options when it comes to DIY microneedling devices. These rollers typically have shorter and blunter needles than the microneedling devices used at our medical spa. They are not designed to puncture the skin, which means the procedure is more comfortable than professional microneedling treatments but won’t produce the types of results you can expect from a medical spa.
  • Laser hair removal: DIY laser treatments? Not exactly. Devices that emit very low levels of energy reduce unwanted hair, but they generally take several treatments and, even then, may not produce the desired outcome. If you do shop for an at-home hair removal device, make sure it’s safe to use on your type of skin tone. Most of these devices use intense pulsed light technology, which can’t be used safely on dark skin.
  • Facial massage: Stimulating facial muscle and tissue can help increase circulation and reduce puffiness. Facial rollers and massaging wands are 2 of the most popular techniques to massage the face. Your skin may appear tighter and refreshed, but the results are typically short-lived.
  • Light therapy: At-home LED treatments may conjure images of celebrities in full face masks with glowing lights. But not all DIY light-therapy devices are the same. The price range is quite wide (but you may get what you pay for). The benefits are real—used consistently, LED treatments can fight acne-causing bacteria, create plumper skin, and minimize wrinkles.

These at-home treatments can be part of your skincare regimen while you’re waiting for your medical spa to reopen but be sure to combine them with professional-grade skincare products. Remember, you can still schedule virtual consultations with one of our estheticians, and we’re offering free shipping on all skincare products. You can shop online at our SkinMedica® Brilliant Connections store and the DA™ Beauty Store.

Dark Skin & Med Spa Treatments: What You Need to Know

Dark Skin & Med Spa Treatments: What You Need to Know

Empowerment through beauty is what our Destination Aesthetics™ family believes in above all else. At our medical spa locations across the Roseville and Sacramento, CA, areas, we’re honored to help women and men of all skin tones look and feel their absolute best. Delivering the safest and most effective care possible means customizing every single treatment with you in mind, and that includes selecting treatments and products that work beautifully with your skin type, whatever that may be.

Read on to learn a bit more about how we identify skin types and the steps we take to best serve them all.

What Is the Fitzpatrick Scale?

The Fitzpatrick scale is a method of identifying skin types depending on the amount of pigment and the response to sun exposure. Developed in 1975, this scale categorizes skin into 6 types, ranging from ivory to darkest brown. You can learn more about these types and identify your own with Healthline’s helpful guide.

Knowing your Fitzpatrick skin type can help you identify potential risks to your skin and can serve as a handy reference point as you develop a personalized skincare regimen, including both at-home products and aesthetic treatments.

Which Laser Treatments Are Safe for Dark Skin Tones?

While most aesthetic treatments (injectables, body contouring, etc.) are safe for all skin types, lasers can carry some risks for post-treatment pigmentation issues.

Some laser and light treatments, such as IPL and ablative lasers, are known to cause hypopigmentation (skin lightening) and hyperpigmentation (skin darkening) in Fitzpatrick types 4 to 6.

However, laser treatments definitely aren’t off the table, especially when you’re working with an experienced laser tech (like one of our #DAGs) who is experienced and trained in treating dark skin tones. Non-ablative laser treatments such as the Lumenis® ResurFx™ are typically the safest. Others can be adjusted to less aggressive levels to better suit darker skin types.

What Is the Best Way to Address & Prevent Pigmentation Issues?

In addition to the laser treatments mentioned above, the chemical peels we offer at Destination Aesthetics™ can also be a safe option for evening out skin coloration and improving texture.

The number 1 universal skincare tip? Sunscreen, of course! No matter which Fitzpatrick type you are, lathering on the SPF is the best way to protect yourself against pigmentation issues, UV damage, and premature aging.

4 Nonsurgical Treatments to Get Summer-Ready

4 Nonsurgical Treatments to Get Summer-Ready

Now that warm weather has finally arrived, many patients want to look their best when wearing shorts or their favorite swimsuit. After all, everyone deserves to feel confident when showing off a bit of skin. Here at Destination Aesthetics™, we offer many different nonsurgical treatments that can sculpt your body, build muscle, or smooth away imperfections.

Whether you’re interested in CoolSculpting® or dermal fillers, it doesn’t take much to touch up your appearance with cosmetic procedures at our med spas in Roseville, Sacramento, Elk Grove, and Folsom. Here are 4 useful treatments that can help you look and feel your best throughout the summer months.

CoolSculpting

Many of us struggle with stubborn pockets of unwanted fat. If you have ever wanted a “magic wand” that could help tone up your belly, thighs, or upper arms, CoolSculpting may be your solution. This innovative treatment freezes away fat cells to slim down fatty areas that have been resistant to diet and exercise. As the frozen cells are naturally shed by the body over time, you get to enjoy trimmer, natural-looking contours.

CoolTone®

A good workout routine can help you burn fat and build muscle at the same time. If you need a bit of help with your body contouring goals, CoolTone is a great addition to your current fitness plan.  By stimulating muscle contractions and promoting muscle growth, CoolTone tones and strengthens your glutes, abs, or thighs. Sessions typically last around 30 minutes, and results can be seen after only a few treatments.

HydraFacial®

When we spend time outside during summer, our skin is exposed to a lot of environmental damage. A HydraFacial® treatment with our med spa professionals is an excellent way to cleanse and hydrate the skin. This gently exfoliating facial clears away dead skin cells and is suitable for all skin types. The treatment targets fine lines and clogged pores and evens out overall skin tone to help patients look younger and refreshed.

Dermal Fillers

If you want a fresh-faced look during summer, dermal fillers help you look radiant without a single drop of makeup. These popular injectables are terrific for rejuvenating the skin and taking years off your appearance. By injecting hyaluronic acid-based products into specific areas, fillers tighten skin and add youthful volume to the face.

Dermal fillers come in a variety of brands and strengths that address different issues. Whether you want to plump up your lips or brighten the area under your eyes, there is a filler that is perfect for you.

We all want to look our best when out and about during summer. Don’t waste any time feeling self-conscious or uncomfortable. With a few simple nonsurgical treatments, you can feel confident in your skin every day of the year.

The First-Timer’s Guide to Lip Injections

The First-Timer’s Guide to Lip Injections

New to the world of lip fillers? No worries! At Destination Aesthetics™, we’re all about education and giving you the info you need to empower yourself through beauty. That’s true whether you’re a seasoned aesthetics pro or it’s your very first time getting lip injections at one of our Sacramento-area med spas.

Read on to learn about what you can expect before, during, and after your first lip injections experience, from prepping to enjoying your perfected pout.

How should I prepare for my lip injections?

Here are a few things you can do to prep yourself for the best possible experience:

  • Avoid alcohol: Steer clear of drinking alcohol or taking blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin or ibuprofen) 48 hours before your appointment, unless instructed by your doctor. These substances can increase your chances of bleeding and bruising.
  • Take Arnica: Consider taking this natural supplement a day or 2 before and after your visit to aid the healing process.
  • Arrive fresh faced: Come to your appointment without makeup on or be ready to remove any makeup on and around your lips.
  • Plan ahead: Schedule your appointment for at least a couple of weeks before any big events — this will allow plenty of time for swelling and bruising to heal in time for you to look your best.

You’ll also want to do plenty of research on the practice and provider you’re considering to make sure they have all the necessary credentials to perform aesthetic injections. Visit DA’s™ Our Team page to learn all about our injectors or follow us on Instagram to see posts like the one below showing our patients’ experiences.

How much lip filler should I get?

Your injector will make recommendations for the amount you’ll need based on your goals. We find that most people require between .5 and 2 syringes of a hyaluronic acid filler such as JUVÉDERM® or Restylane® for lip injections at our Roseville, Sacramento, Folsom, and Elk Grove med spas. Different formulations offer different benefits related to their thickness, ability to absorb water, and other traits. Your injector will discuss these with you as well.

You can also enhance your lips by including a BOTOX® Cosmetic lip flip, which shapes your upper lip without adding extra volume. It was recently featured in Harper’s Bazaar as one of the fastest-growing trends in lip injections.

Do lip injections hurt?

Most fillers are formulated with lidocaine, a numbing agent designed to keep you as comfortable as possible. Your provider will also apply a topical anesthetic before performing the injections, which some people say feel like small pinches or bug bites. The whole process typically takes about 20 minutes.

How long will swelling last after lip injections?

Initial swelling typically lasts about 2 days, but it may take a couple of weeks for it to subside completely. Mild bruising and redness around your injection sites are also possible during the first few days. We recommend giving yourself a couple of weeks to heal completely before stepping out at any major event.

Check out this video from our founder & CEO, Shawna Chrisman, showing what you can expect to look like right after your appointment.

How long will my lip injection results last?

It depends on the formulation and how quickly your body naturally breaks it down, but most fillers last between 6 and 12 months. Because the volume goes down gradually over time, people typically opt for touch-ups once or twice a year to maintain their full, pouty look.
