The Microdermabrasion Procedure

Removing this layer of skin agitates underlying layers and enacts a natural healing process using a protein called collagen. The collagen in the skin promotes the creation of new and healthy skin cells, which help eliminate the appearance of skin conditions. During the procedure, a hand-held abrasion tool is used on the skin in conjunction with a slight suction technique, which aids in removing the dead skin cells. The abrasion device can be adjusted to an individual’s unique skin-type, making it a safe treatment that ensures vibrant results. Many clients who receive microdermabrasion experience a slight pinching sensation, but otherwise the procedure is relatively painless. Once the procedure is complete, you may notice a dry or tight feeling in your skin, which may last up to 24 hours. Using moisturizers and care instructions suggested to you by the Destination Aesthetics staff will ensure that your skin heals properly.

Microdermabrasion Risks and Side-Effects

When performed by a professional, microdermabrasion should not produce any side-effects in the skin, and clients can typically resume regular activities immediately following the procedure. Usually side-effects occur when the abrasion tool is not properly sanitized, which could increase chances of infection. However, a licensed professional in a medical environment will ensure that the procedure is performed in the safest manner possible.

Typically, anyone with noticeable skin conditions that are causing decreased self-esteem can receive microdermabrasion.
